Product Information | |
This Game Boy Advance game was designed by Hideo Kojima with a special cartridge capable of detecting levels of sunlight and modifying gameplay accordingly. Players take command of Django, a vampire hunter, and begin a quest to save the world from hordes of evil demons. However, Django is a much better hunter during the day, and daylight also makes his prey weaker. The game cartridge senses the level of sunlight -- depending on whether the player is inside or outside, and if it's a sunny day -- and adjusts the difficulty level accordingly. The world of Boktai is full of spiders, vampires, zombies, and other foul creatures, so Django needs all the help he can get. Some of the enemies can be killed with a special "solar gun," but others have to be lured outside, into the sunlight. | |

GBA Hidden Treasure!
I remember hearing about this game years ago in an issue of Nintendo Power, but never got around to playing it until now. The premise is simple, defeat the immortals using the power of the sun! Except it's more than that. It's stealth, puzzles, and item hunting as well! Sunlight is required for this game, as it will tell you many times. You don't need sunlight 70% of the time, but it's important that you save solar power into the game's storage system when you get the chance. Bosses are the only real requiremen for playing in the sunlight. They are more or less impossible without it! Overall, I highly recommend this unique little gem for anyone's GBA collection.

Very unique
The game looked new. Extremely minor wear and tear on the game and it’s 100% authentic. The game itself had a rather unique concept that actually worked. You play a vampire hunter that has the “Gun del sol” which essentially is a gun that fires solar energy at vampires. Well the power for the gun comes from the game paks ability to use solar energy that transfers into the game. A super neat idea and an amazing game. Definitely recommend!

Great game Out West! or Florida! Vampire Hunter Remake!
First off, the literal sun has to be shining on the cartridge in order to play most parts of the game. The cartridge can overheat and auto turn the game off, which never happened to me. For that reason alone I give this entire game a 9 out of 10. All that said, if you took the sun element out, it would be the best vampire game in existence. I purchased it because it's one of the only games that requires the sun in order to play it. That factor isn't always a bad thing, just challenging at times. The game itself is a Vampire RPG (RPG as in Zelda: A Link to the Past and not Breath of Fire) style game, making it extremely fun. Graphics I give a 10 out of 10. Game play and depth 10 out of 10. Length 10 out of 10. Story 10 out of 10. Replay value 10 out of 10. The only con to this game is the need of the sun for certain parts... but even on a cloudy day you don't NEED the sun to play, you store sun power up like any other item in the game and use it later. The only time you need the literal sun is to fight bosses. Pros of the game are too many to mention, but I'll try a few. Items in the game are awesome, you can mix items to make different or more powerful items like in the Resident Evil series. Bosses in the game are different every time and extremely huge, powerful, and cool. These bosses rival any other games bosses big time! Graphics are a huge plus. I've owned over 30 GBA titles and none of the graphics for any of my other games came close to topping this game. Boktai is a very long game like any other great RPG. Takes about 20+ hours to beat depending on how much of the game you want to cover and how much you have to wait on the sun to come out. There are puzzles in the game that are fun to figure out. Items and upgrades in the game are really cool. There is a tree in the game that allows you to grow and cross pollinate fruits that help you out. You get many different types of weapons. And your a vampire hunter like Vampire Hunter D. All together makes this game worth buying. I give this game a 5 out of 5. Enjoy
The SUN in your hand or well a solar sensor is in your hand.
This is a unique game where they took a simple concept, your a gun slinging vampire hunter who's weapon shoots beams of light. What if we added a solar sensor to the game and made you collect real sunlight. An awesome game to add to the collection.

A hidden gem in the Game Boy Advance library.
"Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand" is one of my most cherished games back in the day. It's one of Hideo Kojima's projects. Just the concept alone kept me hooked. I love the fact that you use the sunlight from outside to affect how you play the game. The solar sensor changes the in game environments and can either help or hinder your progress throughout your journey. As for the story, the player play as the Solar Boy who sets off to avenge his father who was defeated by the Count. It's about Family, revenge, and the balance between light and darkness. The game features a customizable solar gun, dungeon puzzles, farming fruits, and stealth. I highly recommend it for anyone who is a fan of Mr. Kojima's works as well as a good puzzle/action rpg.
