B-17 Flying Fortress II: The Mighty Eight for Windows

Unfortunately, this game cannot be played and enjoyed until a complex set of individual key or combination keyboard stroke commands are mastered. The CD does allow reference to the game manual, but realistically, you need a copy printed out for reference purposes and that is going to take time. If you were hoping for a simple, quickly matered simulation, don't buy this game. Its going to take time and effort to learn how to fly a B17! Sadly, I think I would stand a better chance of learning how to fly the real thing, rather than a keyboard driven version. Perhaps in time, and with some success, my rating for this game will go up.

Still a great gaming experience. Interaction with the crew of a B-17 in flight on historic bombing missions during World War II. Player can man various positions within the airplane as bomber or gunner to drop bombs on target or fend off enemy aircraft attacking the bomber formations.
Player can change into various fighter aircraft as German or American pilots. User manual helps to guide the player step by step in easy to read content. Love the game - very unique - don't think there's ever been another game similar to this. Glad I found this game again - had it several years ago. Highly recommend.

As an enthusiast of Warbirds, and their fight to ensure our country's freedoms, being able to place myself into history, aboard our magnificent Flying Fortress, cemented my honoring of the deeds those men did for our benefit. This "game" is as real as it gets!
Although one does not endure the hardships of those, on these missions, you definately understand the endurance needed. Grueling long-distance runs, uneventful time spans and exilarating action sequences all put the reality of our airmen into your grasp.
This is not for the impatient gamer. If you are looking for full-out action, stick with other combat sims. If you want to experience history, as it was made, this is the sim for you. You will acquire a new respect for the B-17G, and its crew members! Enjoy!!
You are able to take control of any one of the ten positions aboard the airship, and, as the Bombadier, you have effective control of the entire ship. Once your mission is underway, you can even tranfer to a fighter, that is escorting your squadron, or into the cockpit of an enemy fighter, looking to prevent your progress. In effect, there is action where none is evident.
Operations of B-17,Flying Fortress-Mighty 8th on the Vista OS requires a patch, and the ability to decompress, or unzip files. Once obtained, via online sites, history is yours for the making.
Keep your head up, on a swivel.

I happen to have a fondness for the B-17, the P-51 Mustang* the A-10 Tank Killer and the SR-51 Blackhawk,: all for very different reasons. (*with the Merlin Engine of course;)
Was lucky enough to have the privilege of riding behind the pilot on a Flying Fortress a few years back, for the better part of a half and hour. Will never forget it.

Great graphics, great interactive modes and ability to switch between aggressor and defender is superb experience. Also, players have the option of staying "in action" or watching fighter attacks from slightly outside the Bomber formation.
Ideal for group players as you can become command pilot, wing commander or any of the crew members on any of a long list of bombing campaigns and missions.
Fighter attacks are so realistic it takes a little nerve to "stay on your gun".
From start engines to navigation and return and landing you are in total control. Realistic, interactive cockpit controls and ability to swap positions in-flight. Bail-out when the action gets too tough and your "17" is shot down. Bomb runs and Norden Technology 100% interactive and accurate. This is the "ultimate" WWII flight sim, IMO.
