In Earth Year 223, life on Mars has become a daily struggle for survival in a brutal corporate world. Since the terraforming operation brought a breathable atmosphere to the Red Planet, over 30 percent of Earth's population migrated there in the past 20 years, and the result is a fledgling world with a wealth of opportunities and a host of dangers for enterprising and skilled individuals. One of the most exciting and deadly occupations during these turbulent times is that of an Armored Core pilot. ACs, as they're commonly referred, are giant mechs that corporations use as hired goons to sabotage and harm each other on Mars. Although the ACs may fight to the death when hired for a job, that doesn't mean that they don't respect one another, and your level of respect depends on your ability to succeed in the Arena, where ACs go up against each other in a one-on-one showdown for mech superiority. Climb the ranks of the Arena and earn that respect you think you deserve. But fame and fortune comes at a price. It could be measured in the huge amount of credits you put into your AC, or it could be measured with your life. Armored Core 2 is the sequel to the best-selling mech title for the PSOne, and takes place some seventy years after its predecessor. You take on the role of a Raven, a highly elite AC pilot who's just touched down on the Red Planet and is looking to improve your AC and your reputation amongst the battle-hardened denizens of the AC community. Thanks to a constant struggle between the three corporations seeking to control the terraforming project, the Ravens are extremely busy being hired out by the corporations as mercenaries, as each tries to ruin the other's chances of success. Although a major part of the single-player game is accepting missions from the corporations (there are over 30 missions, many of them completely optional), you will also want to take place in the Arena battles if you want to succeed and earn respect and cash. The Arena is a ladder of 40 of the best AC pilots, and once you beat the mech above you, you take his or her place. You also win cold, hard cash, which becomes extremely important in the maintenance and upgrading of your AC. In this way, the single-player missions and the Arena serve each other, as you have to use the money you earn from both to succeed in either. Each of Armored Core 2's mechs is utterly customizable, from the 13 different major components that make up their bodies, to colors and logos. The game starts players with the most basic essentials, but to succeed, you'll have to make choices about what you want your mech to be, from its speed to the firepower it can generate. The best parts aren't cheap, and it will take a pilot with great skill to be able to afford them. Aside from the single-player game, Armored Core 2 also includes a two-player mode, either via split-screen or the link cable. Players can create their own mechs and then upload them onto friend's PS2s so they can compete with their own customized ACs. |

Armored Core 2 is the first of many Armored Core games on the PS2. If your a fan of big robot combat, this is certainly a game for you. This game allows the for the customization of your "Armored Core" allowing for many different styles of combat and even the paint job. There is a mission mode with around 30 missions and an arena mode with more than 50 other combatants. Once you are finished with the game, you can import your save file to the next game which is "Armored Core 2: Another Age". This is a game that requires skill, not just an excellent setup as a skilled pilot with an inferior AC will be able to take down an inferior pilot with a superior setup with little trouble. Problems with this game: There are slow downs in the game when many characters and projectiles. There is no online play. The control scheme is unwieldy since does not allow for analog look which many other FPS games have for better aiming and control. It can have a steep learning curve for beginners however, this is one of the easier AC games as the series generally gets even more difficult. This is probably the best game to get into first to familiarize yourself with the Armored Core system. Pros: Skill based game. Deep customization. Challenging game mission and arena mode. Import save game to the next AC game. Cons: Game periodically slows down. Can be difficult for beginners. No analog look/strafe. The bottom line: If you like big robot combat and customization, pick this game up. If you're not sure but want to try something new, it's still widely available not just on ebay and it's pretty cheap ($5-15).
This game is amazing, it was done very well and is fun
The game was almost flawlessly done, a good arsenal of weaponry to fit the needs of one's tactics in mech combat, be it long range sniping or machine guns galore, even dual blades for those who prefer to slash (like me =P). Lots of customization and a good storyline with amazing graphics on the PS2 even after being around for over 6 years. I think it's a great buy for anyone looking for a nice game, and unlike most mech games it does have a good 2 player mode where you can load ACs from either memory card slot, people can battle using whatever they wish and it even keeps a vs record to show wins and losses for a player's profile. All in all I think it's a great game and almost everyone will love it, a true best buy
Robot wars
Athough this is a older game it packs a punch. This title is for PS2 and the Armored Core 4 for PS3 does not even come close. The game play is intensive and addicting. You need to really explore each level in depth to find all the hidden attachments and arsenal for your robot. Some levels will seem impossible to overcome but with the right gear you should have a chance. There is also and endless array of different robot combinations to build. You can even add your your own unique color pattern, go even more with the design of your own badge. As you progress and defeat levels you will battle tougher and better designed robots. The final chapter will be the ultimate battle and you had better be well prepared. You will need to aquire the secret weapons and upgrades in order to win this fight. So go back to older levels to make sure you find them. Of course you could go on the internet to find cheat codes but really you are just taking the fun out of winning. I give this game 10 stars and I am sure you will too.
A Classic Mech Game For People Who Want a Challenge!
Armored Core games (at least the ps2 era and before AC games) are known for their insane customization, and incredible difficulty. This game will not hold your hand, but when you figure out what makes this game tick, you will become addicted. You will want to perfect every single mission, you will want to build the best damn mech you can, and make it look amazing as well.

great (but not perfect) mech game
Its a great clssic game. One of the first for the playstation 2. Indepth mech action thats not for the new commer gammer. Dislike? Runs a little slow, the playstation has a hard time every now and then keeping pace with the action. Controlls can be dificult to adjust to. Likes? great action game, tons of customization. if you like mechs. this ones a must buy. one of the greatest mech games of all time.
