WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NANO
Ipod nano is the best thing to happen to happen to digital music since the iPod itself. I bought this in hopes to have the next cool thing out there, ( i had a mini before and sold it to buy a nano because i didn't have 1000 songs and i wanted to have pictures) When i first got it it was GREAT, i plugged it in and all the sudden within about ten minutes it was updated with the latest software and it had all my music and pictures on it. Then things went bad. I was going on a trip that day and when i was back i noticed my iPod nano was scratched. it had not been abused, or even near something that could have scratched it. Go to any store with one on display and you'll see that pretty much whenever you touch it it scratches. YOU MUST BUY A SKIN AND SCREEN PROTECTORS OR IT WILL BE SCRATCHED UP LIKE AN OLD RECORD! Because the screen is just under the plastic that covers the front of the nano the whole screen is very vulnerable to scartches and smudges which are very hard to get off on this certain plastic. Positives: small and sleek holds all the music most people need is great if you want pictures but not video in my opinion sound quality is pretty good. Negatives: More Fragile Than a glass ornament screen is too small for pictures apple's customer support is really bad no wall charger, a big problem for those of us that can't get to our usb ports easily on our cpu. if you are looking for a great toy buy a psp. if you are looking for a mp3 player, try something else. if you must have this, get a knight's armour!
Apple iPod nano 4 GB
Bought it because of the Apple aspect, Battery DOES NOT LAST...about half of what apple claims. I bought 2 of these and they are NEW and the same. HALF of what I expected. Battery meter... not valid at half goes about 40 minutes. Not a good gauge. It is small and easy to use. Very well set up. Slips into a mode at no given moment and must be reconnected to the computer to resolve issue. Hate to say it...it is no better than my RIO was with regards to liability. Yes, it is COOL AND TRENDY..that's what it is.
So much great stuff in such a small package!
I just bought myself a white 4gb Applie iPod Nano and love it. Youre able to download pictures that are displayed on a high resolution color screen. In addition to having tons of your favorite songs, you can work with Microsoft Outlook and add all your contact info, calander, and to-do notes to your nano. The nano also comes with 4 different games which are a good distraction if your bored. I love the "spin wheel". It's like a tiny touch pad for a computer! My ONLY complaint is that they advertize a 4 gb storage capacity, but when I got mine and plugged it in for the first time, the available capacity is only 3.7 gb. Apparently, if you had no programming etc on the nano it could hold 4gb (but then it wouldn't work). It is noted in super fine print on the packaging - but it would have been good to know before! Oh, one other thing. Get something to protect the nano ASAP, the front screen scratches VERY easily (like with a cloth!). If you want it to look great for more than a day - I suggest you get protection for it immediatly. Apple is making a "Agent 18" hard case for the nano that I just bought. Very good idea! Overall? Great buy, small, compact, highly useful! Very sleek and attractive. It will definately make your friends jealous!
Ipod 4.1 gb.
I bought this to listen to all my MP3's while at work (instead of the musak they pump in to break our spirits). What can I say... by now everyone should at least be familiar with the concept of a mp3 player... and the Ipod lives up to that concept well in so much as it indeed does play mp3s. The battery life, however, means that you'll be getting through half your collection before it starts blinking. A must get accessory is a wall charger... unless you are in your car for a long time you probably won't charge up enough on the drive into work to get it to full, and most companies would frown on you plugging into your desktop's USB to power up. Remember though... don't buy the brand name accessories! The price is inflated, and the performance is no different. Cell phone chargers come with the same USB connection that the Ipod uses, and are a LOT cheaper. Just match up the power output on the plug to the input on the ipod, and you will be set. The extras that come with the Ipod are a novelty... but really not necessary and just end up wasting valuable battery charge on things other than music. Where Ipod shines really is if you already use Itunes. The two mesh perfectly (almost as if they were made to go together....), and moving your music, ratings, and Mp3 tag information over is a snap... all of which you can use on the road to sort your playlists. If you don't have the massive library of ITunes .99 songs, then skip the pricy name brand and go for the cheaper "off-brands" that often give just as good sound.
Excellent MP3 Player with a few things to keep in mind
The Nano excells in everything it does. The compact size is perfect for someone who doesn't want to carry around a bulky and cumbersome player. Since there is no hard drive on the Nano, you don't have the worry of a hard drive crashing or skipping. It is so incredibly light and small, that you barely know you have it in your shirt pocket or strapped to your arm. The sound quality is excellent! I went ahead and purchased an adapter (from Monster) that lets me play it in my car over three different FM frequencies of my choosing. I feel the 4GB capacity is actually plenty of space. I have mine maxed out right now with 992 songs. Apple claims that you can store about 1000 songs. I figure 992 is close enough for me. I'm sure I could get up to 1000 songs if I were to remove some of the larger songs but who cares. You'd have to drive a LONG TIME to get through all 992 songs! The features on the player on really nice. One feature I particularly like is while listening to a song, you can rate it from 1 to 5 stars. Then when you sync it back up with iTunes, those ratings will be brought in as well. Then you can sort your songs by your rating as well. It even has a few small "games" on board. Now for the downside...Apple apparently used a different supplier or manufacturing process for the screen covering on the Nano. The screen scratches UNBELIEVEABLY easy. After the first day of use (and I thought I was babying it) I ended up with a couple scratches across the screen. The screen is still readable but I've read reviews from some individuals whose screens were almost non-readable after a very short period of time. I've also heard that there is a class action lawsuit against Apple for this very same problem. The lawsuit claims that Apple knew about the problem but went ahead and released the Nano anyways. I've also heard horror stories from individuals who have tried to get a replacement but Apple refused. Since mine is still viewable, I've decided to wait and see what happens with the lawsuits to determine my next course of action for a replacement or repair. Once other thing to keep in mind is not to keep the Nano in your pants pocket (front or back). I have had friends who have actually cracked their Nano when they sat down. All-In-All, the Nano is an excellent MP3 player! I would however invest in a some sort of screen protector before even using it for the first time.
