Easy to use
Good image quality
Good value
Fantastic dynamic range maintaining quality all of the way
After much review of my next "pocket" camera, I ran across this one which exceeded my size requirements, but I just couldn't resist the specs. As it turns out, it's worth the extra size! The telephoto range is awesome and not to be matched but maybe on a camera and lens weighing 8 times this one. This is the camera I thought didn't exist and am extremely happy on my purchase. After owning a Sony RX-100 M3 my expectations were pretty high and I am not disappointed. It's a perfect compliment also to my full size Nikon's which I haul out for special occasions. The colors and sharpness are wonderful and right in tune with everything I already knew about Canon. This is the one camera you don't want to be without to catch your kids down the beach having fun and bring them into close view. Also it makes for the perfect macro camera. The WiFi app is the first one that I really like, especially on an Android phone like my Samsung Galaxy 5 (yes I know there are newer ones). So go out and get one for yourself!

Thanks to all the reviewers who couldn't get past the lack of an EVF...
They've driven the price down to a real bargain without really understanding the strengths of this amazing camera. With a sensible and logical menu system coupled with a touch screen, navigating and making changes on the fly are a breeze; extremely fast and simple. Similarly, touching the screen to select a specific focus point is instantaneous. No buttoning around to move the selection box. When highly zoomed in, the button that zooms out while still showing the original zoomed area size is invaluable for re-acquiring the subject. The scene modes are also quick and easy to select with the touch screen. And the image quality is outstanding. The camera has so much intelligent programming that Auto Mode easily handles the vast majority of shooting situations while HDR, Shadow Compensation and the myriad other functions are available for the remainder. Yes, an EVF is extremely useful and other cameras have them built in but can they tilt upward? Can they be removed when not required? The Canon's EVF can and, now that you can get a bundle which includes one for the discounted price of the camera alone, the last barrier to getting a great, weather-proofed, touch screen, high-quality, light-weight, easy to use, smart, 24-600mm zoom camera has been removed.

Canon G3X
unique camera - with 1 inch sensor and 24-600mm Focal Length - a super zoom - it has the sensor from the RX100m3 - so a good sensor - the G3X is smaller then the competitors the Lumix FZ1000 and Sony RX10 /1/2/3 - it is priced close to the Lumix FZ1000 - but the FZ1000 is a bit larger but on the other hand has 4K video and a Electronic Viewfinder anymore function buttons - The Lumix has a bit shorter focal length of 25-400mm - but faster aperture F2.8-4.0 vs the F2.8-6.3 on the Canon G3X - I do like the size of the G3X vs the bridge style which the Lumix FZ1000 and Sony RX10 1/2/3 are - but with the smaller body Canon omits the EVF - I bought a separate EVF that goes in the hot shote and it is a decent EVF but it adds $250 more to the price - so really the Lumix FZ1000 is the bargain and it likewise is loaded with features - which the Canon G3X is not - The G3X does however have a Touch LCD which the Sony and Lumix do not have - I miss many features on the G3X - Video in HD is good but of course no 4K like the Lumix FZ1000 and the Sony RX10 1/2/3 have - The new Sony RX10 m3 is the best of the 3 with a focal length of 24-600 like the Canon G3X but has a faster lens of F.2.4 - f4.0 and the best 4k features but it is also $1498 while the Lumix FZ1000 with 4k and many features ant 25-400 F2.8-4.0 is $797 so $700 less then the Sony - The Canon G3X is $899 with no 4k and no EVF and less features and - so the Lumix FZ1000 is a bargain - If however you like to have a bit smaller body in line with the mirrorless cameras vs bridge style camera then the Canon G3X is it - Maybe Canon will have an update to it - like they just updated their G7X to G7X m2 - although I argue that the updates where not that impressive - For one I think they should replace the flash with a built in EVF - the flash is worthless as when lens is zoomed out it blocks the light from the little flash - I think more important to have a builtin EVF then that tiny flash I find that the images are a bit soft - although it is using a Sony sensor - so must be due to processing - Sony tends to like sharper out of camera images - but as it can record in RAW one can post process - The new Lumix ZS100 25-250mm F2.8-6.3 with the same Sony 1 inch sensor is a fantastic tiny camera - yes not quite 400 or 600mm - but so small and light - and images are just sharper - it has 4k and Post Focus features - super super fast processor - like when one puts it in a mode where the camera shoots 2-5 shoots and then merges them into the best image - often used in low light situations - to increase dynamic range etc - most cameras will display a MSG - Processing ... for 1 to several seconds and one waits - but with the ZS100 and a decent SD card - there is no wait - So regardless which 1 inch super zoom you get - you got to get the Lumix ZS100 - If you want the ultimate super zoom - then it is the $1495 Sony RX10m3 - it it is lots of features - and 4k and a bridge style is not an issue and price is then the Lumix FZ1000 is a clear winner but you get 200mm shorter zoom - If size is the main thing then the Canon G3X - They are all using Sony 1 inch sensors - except the RX100m4 has the latest version - stacked - which offloads a bit faster for video - but in reality there is no real image quality difference - but it does a tiny bit better in low light - but of course for lot more money

Best of Both Worlds
I looked around a good bit to find a camera with both a powerful zoom and also a sensor large enough to capture quality images. Found it! I was tired of lugging around my "rig" of lenses and camera bodies to events that didn't need all that. Voila. The Powershot G3X doesn't fit in my pocket, but it packs in my suitcase easily, or hangs around my neck with ease. This is a point-and-shoot camera with some professional, DSLR-style features, like custom white balance, high ISO, remote firing, custom setting presets, and hotshoe. 600mm optical zoom? Yeah, I'll take that. It goes even further with a digital zoom, and I am surprised at how little quality is lost with those as well! In short, this is awesome for photographers who know enough about what they are doing to get great use out of these features. And for those who don't, set it to auto, and get great images anyway!

From pro dslr to this bridge camera
I've used high end canon equipment for years. I presently own a canon 1dx and 5d4 along with sho very expensive glass. I purchased the g3x for travel, it had many features similar to the pro body dslr cameras but in one small package that travels well, shoots great and creates quality images. Yes it's not as great as some of my high end equipment but it's as close as you can get for this price point..
