Set in a time far earlier than Tolkien's master works, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, this is the epic history of the elves, and the grand story of the creation of Tolkien's magical world. The Lord of the Rings narrated the great events at the end of the Third Age; but the tales of The Silmarillion are legends deriving from a much deeper past, when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils. Never published in the author's lifetime, The Silmarillion is an essential compendium for all Tolkien fans. It will be published in five consecutive volumes, each completely unabridged. The series contains not only the Quenta Silmarillion, but four other short works: the Ainulindale, Valaquenta, Akallabeth and Of the Rings of Power.

Fast and in beautiful condition
Slight weathering of the dust cover and a lovely inscription to its previous owner on the inside of the front cover is the only thing which would distinguish it from a new book. I love this book. I was finally replacing a much used and disintegrating mass market paperback with a hardback. I was thrilled to find such a reasonably-priced and beautiful book.

1st Print 1st Edition Silmarillion
The Silmarillion I bought is accurate and has an amazing map included. I enjoy a good history of Middle earth and this provided the means of reading about it!

J.R.R. Tolkien does it again
The Silmarillion is an amazing story and talks about how the world of Middle-Earth was created. It is one of Tolkien's finer works, it is similar to the book of Genesis in the Bible, as some people compare it to, despite Tolkien denying that any of his Middle-Earth works have allegory of any kind. Though It's beautiful yet complex and full of detail yet remains incomplete. It talks about the High Elves and the war with the first Dark Lord Morgoth and the recovery of Silmaril's. I will not say anything beyond that, the rest of the story you'll find out for yourself. While it's a difficult read, if your up for the challenge its worth reading. Love it!
Good quality. The jacket was a bit torn but to be expected for a book from 1977. The book itself and cover were great! Even still included the map in the back! I am ecstatic!
