  • rock and roll pure nickel

I've had good luck with these..the strings are consistent and have a nice tone with pure nickel wrap. they are slightly less bright than standard slinky's. i use them on strats and gibson style guitars, and like the sound for single and double coil pickups. my guitars have mostly stock, or aftermarket stock type pickups (ex. duncan 59, gibson 57 classic) but i do have an 80's Les Paul custom with a dimarzo super distortion and they sound good with that as well. I have a cleaner classic rock sound, just a little drive from the amp... because of that, 'm not able to comment on a how they are for heaver thick distorted sound. but as for for the basics... staying in tune, consistency between sets, the type tone I like... and the price is good compared to some other company's pure ...

  • Great choice for vintage or high-end electrics

Been using Ernie Ball pure nickel “Rock ‘n Roll” 10’s on my 2018 Historic and 9’s on my EJ signature for several months now. In the realm of pure nickel strings, I think these are easily the best choice. These are like 90% awesome 100% of the time. Some brands can deliver 100% some times but then a dead set the next, followed by a handful of rust on the third attempt. If they feel weird under your fingers after coming from Gibson, GHS, D’Addario, etc., don’t worry, you’ll get used to it.

  • Best Old School Strings

These are made the way strings used to be made back in the day, They are pure nickel wrapped unlike most strings made today. What does this mean? When they first go on, they sound crisp and not overly bright like most strings today, and they retain their sound longer than contemporary strings. They also seem to last longer. I've been gigging since 1966, and these are the ONLY strings I use. They cost a bit more, but they have the tone and feel I play most comfortably. Your sound starts with the string. Why spend all the money we spend on gear and have the initial link in the sound chain less than stellar quality? I suppose some people like the newer strings...each of us is entitled to our own opinion. In my opinion, these get 5 stars.

  • My go-to favorites

I use Ernie Ball Pure Nickel Slinkys almost exclusively on all my electric guitars, 11-48 on everything with a trem (plus a Thinline Tele) and 10-46 on everything else (other Teles and a Les Paul). I prefer the warmth of pure nickel on the lower strings, and Ernie Ball has for the past several years been my go-to favorite for reliable quality out of the package, clear and balanced tone across all six strings, plus overall feel and durability. I change strings frequently, usually after 12-16 hours of play, and Ernie Ball provides the perfect combination of affordability, quality and performance for my playing style and preferences.

  • Great strings

I lived up the street from the Ball family in the sixties. These are the kind of strings that were available back then. All the newer strings are made in China and most are nickel coated as appossed to just plain nickel like the old days. Except for Ernie Ball strings. They are made in the USA. Where Fender and Gibson guitars are made. I managed a music store in the 70s and strings wholesale were about 2 to 3 bucks a set. 4 bucks for the real deal pure nickel sets are a great deal. I bought ten sets and will buy more. You are getting a great deal and great strings!
