The tracks themselves don't have pre-set paths so users can take any course to the finish line. Modes of play range from single races to competitions to earn money and upgrade vehicles. When racing online, players aren't limited to competing against other Dreamcast owners; 4x4 Evolution also allows PC and Macintosh users to compete.
