The Black Keys: Nothing like The White Stripes
Ah yes, the infamous live album/video. Usually no more than a cheesy “best of” collection for many bands, it is rare anymore to find a decent set of live-recorded material. Sure, there are a few videos/CDs that stand out, but seriously, can anyone tell me that he or she has ever watched a live DVD/VHS more than once after purchasing it? They have a tendency to wear quite thin relatively quickly, and just do not seem to hold up as well as studio-produced material does. Fitting right into this category is The Black Keys’ latest release, “The Black Keys Live,” available only on DVD. Fat Possum (a smaller, blues/punk music label) has put out some excellent video releases over the past couple of years, and “The Black Keys Live” is definitely worth checking out if one is familiar with Fat ... It features a whooping seventeen live tracks (a full-length concert which features three encores), an awesome band interview, two music videos, and even a photo gallery. Filmed March 18, 2005 at the Metro Theatre in Sydney, Australia, “The Black Keys Live” was filmed during the Keys’ latest tour for their latest record, “Rubber Factory.” It is not difficult then to see why most songs on here (more than half) are cuts off of this record; this is, however, somewhat disappointing in the fact that The Black Keys’ older catalog is just as good as the newer material. But we will put that one small problem to the side, as if it were not for the excellent showmanship of both Carney and Auerbach, this DVD would fall quite flat. Whenever I listened to their CDs, I assumed the music was overdubbed (as the Keys’ are only a guitar/drum duo) in order to get as big of a sound as was heard. But as it turns out, Auerbach’s amazing guitar solos and Carney’s swift, groove-oriented drumming are a powerful force. Their combination of punk, blues, and psychedelic rock create one heck of an entertaining show. If one is a fan of The Black Keys (or even enjoys the varied music from Fat Possum Records, for that matter), this is definitely a DVD to check out. It is kind of sad that it was not released on CD, as the show is only a little more than an hour long and would have been a perfect full-length concert to listen to while driving in the car. No, it is not a killer video by any means; the Keys’ music may be too bluesy for some, but this **** live video will make an excellent addition to anyone’s music library.

Great concert
Awesome early footage of the black keys... Great sound quality good song selection. Nice bonus features. If you are a fan it’s a must have.

The Black Keys uses all 88!
Truthfully, I never heard of the Black Keys before my nephew asked for their music for Christmas. I did some research and found that they do indeed rock. They are a cross between raw jazz and rock. I bought this item for my nephew as a Christmas present, and he said that he watched the dvd right away and it was like having a concert right in his room. Who said the young do not educate their elders?Truthfully, I never heard of the Black Keys before my nephew asked for their music for Christmas. Nice set, awesome band, no beard.
This is an awesome set if you´re into the sound of The Black Keys. Both Pat´s and Dan´s performance is flawless. The sound is tight, overall a great concert. I know its a shallow comment, but the band´s sound, lyrics and Dan´s voice looks better with his beard on.

If you like the Black Keys, then you'll like this DVD. Great live performance from them. Sound and filming is of good quality and you get the experience of a live performance. A great band to see live, so see them anytime you want with this film.
